Thailand Brain Bee

Panyarat High School will again be the host of the National Brain Bee in Thailand for 2026. The Thailand National Brain Bee is an in-person neuroscience competition for high school students and is approved by the International Brain Bee (IBB) as Thailand’s national-level competition. The winner of the Thailand National Brain Bee will represent the country at the IBB World Championship, competing alongside 40+ national champions from around the world.
 
Eligibility
This inclusive event welcomes all high school students in Thailand, regardless of nationality, race, ethnicity, gender, sex, religion, or orientation.
  • High school students of any nationality currently enrolled in a public, private, or international school in Thailand. 
  • Space is limited due to limitations of the online examination platform. Registration will close if the maximum number of competitors is reached.
  • Students from a nearby country without an established national-level Brain Bee competition are also eligible. However, competitors may only compete in one country’s Brain Bee in any given competition cycle. 
Prizes and Awards
All competitors will receive a digital certificate of participation. Semifinalists / Finalists will be awarded certificates of achievement, and the top three finishers will receive trophies:
  • 1st place: Trophy + qualification for the International Brain Bee World Championship
  • 2nd place: Trophy
  • 3rd place: Trophy

Competition Format

The Thailand National Brain Bee competition will assess students’ understanding and application of neuroscience concepts. All questions will be in English. Students should prepare using three key resources:

  1. Brain Facts (primary resource)
  2. Functional Neuroanatomy – Introduction to Neuroanatomy
  3. Neuroscience: Science of the Brain 

The competition consists of three rounds:

  • Opening Round – A computer-based exam featuring multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, and short-answer questions based. Top scoring competitors (approximately 20) advance to compete in the Semifinal Round.
  • Semifinal Round – An onsite neuroanamtomy exam using models and diagrams. Top scoring competitors (approximately 10) advance to compete in the Final Round.
  • Final Round – An on-stage competition where finalists answer open-ended questions posed by judges. Competitors are eliminated after two incorrect answers, and the round continues until a winner is declared.

  • True or False: The brain’s most common inhibitory neurotransmitter is GABA.

Semifinal Round
  • (For example, a diagram of the brain with an arrow pointing to the central sulcus is presented.) Which two cerebral lobes are separated by the structure indicated by the arrow?
Final Round
  • What is the name of where the optic nerves cross?
