Skype Cultural Exchange 2018

15 students from M3 joined the Skype club students from Fonda-Fultonville Central School District (FFCS) for a chat about different cultures and lifestyles between Thailand and the US. The video exchange started by showing the US students how Thai students sing the national anthem and pray in the morning. Following this, they went on to discuss topics ranging from food, school life, music, politics, lifestyle, TV, movies, study and eventually food again! For the PHS students it was a great opportunity to engage with students from another country and support their learning about North American lifestyles.

Students took it in turns to ask questions and the groups then got to interact further on the topics with students asking follow up questions and being more inquisitive about another country’s culture. It is great to see the similarities that exist between the cultures, and also the differences. Students can learn a great deal from these exchanges and build a better understanding of life in countries outside Thailand.

There will be another exchange for the high school students in February, this allows the students to develop their understanding and ask deeper questions about society and culture in the US.
